Addressing the 76th session of the UN General Assembly on Wednesday, King Salman bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia reiterated his concerns over Iran’s nuclear program and his desire for lasting peace in Yemen.

The speech was pre-recorded and in it, Shah Salman reiterated his commitment to continue fighting extremist ideologies as well as the fight against “haters and terrorists”.

Shah Salman spoke in detail about Iran’s nuclear program and said that there are contradictions in the claims and actions regarding Iran’s nuclear program.

He also expressed hope for talks with Iran. “Initial talks will pave the way for concrete results and increase confidence,” he said.

“Negotiations will pave the way for compliance with international law, respect for sovereignty, and an end to support for terrorist groups.”

Shah Salman has said that Saudi Arabia has been a founding member of the United Nations and we are committed to its principles.

Shah Salman further said that the goal of the United Nations is international peace and stability, peaceful resolution of conflicts, respect for sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries.

Saudi Arabia’s priority is to keep the Middle East free of weapons of mass destruction

In his speech, Shah Salman spoke exclusively about Iran’s nuclear program.

“Keeping the Middle East free of weapons of mass destruction is Saudi Arabia’s priority,” he said.

“We will continue to support international efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.”

“Iran says its nuclear program is peaceful and not for war, but there are contradictions in its actions,” he added.

‘Yemenis are in trouble because of Iranian-backed Houthi rebels

“Saudi Arabia took the initiative for peace in Yemen in March last year and it could have ended the conflict, but unfortunately the Houthi rebels are still refusing to resolve and want control of Yemen,” Salman said. ۔ ‘

Shah Salman accused the Yemeni people of being in trouble because of the Iranian-backed Houthi militia. They urgently need humanitarian assistance. The situation is likely to get worse.

“Every day attacks in Saudi Arabia threaten international navigation and energy supplies.”

“Saudi Arabia reserves the right to respond to ballistic missiles, drones, and naval strikes,” he said, adding that the international community needed to unite against those who support terrorist groups.

It should be noted that as the Trump administration began its strategy of exerting more pressure on Iran, relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran deteriorated further. In recent years, Iran has been accused of carrying out several attacks on oil depots in the Persian Gulf.

These included an attack on the Saudi oil company Aramco in 2019. Saudi Arabia has been fighting in Yemen for the past six years. On the one hand, Saudi Arabia is fighting the Houthi rebels, on the other hand, Iran is accused of helping the Houthis.
