Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi says Pakistan is committed to play its role in global efforts for tackling the issue of climate change.
Addressing the Climate Change Conference in Islamabad today, he said Pakistan had ratified the Paris Agreement on Climate Change in 2015 and is following the principles therein to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions by twenty percent.
The Prime Minister said climate change has become one of the biggest challenge for mankind today and has united all international community on one platform for action against the hazards of this change.
The Prime Minister said eight percent of the national budget goes for climate related issues.
Underscoring the legislative efforts in this connection, he said the Parliament passed an Act on Climate Change and the government also adopted a policy in this connection.
He said two institutes namely National Climate Change Authority and National Climate Change Council have also been established.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said we are acceding to the agreed upon principles of the Paris Agreement to restrict coal’s hazardous effects.
