Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, Hezb-e-Islami leader and former Two-times Prime Minister of Afghanistan on Monday held talks with Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi to discuss steps that would help reduce violence in the battle-damaged country.
Hekmatyar will hopefully staying for three days in Pakistan. As Pakistan is part of the current in-process debate between Aghanistan and US in Doha,Qatar.The purpose of which is to settle down the storm which has been created due to war from past decades. In this peace process Pakistan is playing key factor to normalize the situation on both sides without hurting interest of any side. During his meeting they acknowledged and appraised the efforts and exchanged words on approaches to adapt in order to reduce the violence and disturbance in Afghanistan.
Despite the fact that the two countries are on table in Intra-Afghan talks, no remarkable reduction in violence has been achieved so far. US and Taliban still accusing each other for breaching the consensus. Last week US military defended air strike, as Taliban blamed US for violating the agreement. Qari Yousaf Ahmedi (Spokesperson of Taliban) said,
“American forces have violated the Doha agreement in various forms by carrying out excessive air strikes following the new developments in Helmand”.
In response to Taliban US forces spokesperson Col. Sonny Leggett denied the accusation and said
“The entire world has witnessed the Taliban’s offensive operations in Helmand – attacks which injured and displaced thousands of innocent Afghan civilians”.
Zalmay Khalilzad (US Special Envoy) met Taliban last week in Doha, Qatar. He said “Unfounded charges of violations and inflammatory rhetoric do not advance Peace”.
Meanwhile during last week there was a major fight in Helmand Taliban clashes with security forces in different region of northern Badakhshan. Which have killed around five of the forces person.
Intra Afghan talks began last month but so far the progress is slow and not enough fruitful on other hand the violence is increasing every day. The US and Afghan officials requested Pakistan to play its role to convince Taliban for reducing the violence. This was the main outline of the meeting of Hekmatyar with FM Qureshi.
While FM Qureshi welcomed them and highlighted the historical regional and religious ties among both countries. FM reiterated his country`s desire to enhance the relation between two countries up to exemplary length and reiterated that Pakistan will leave no stone un-turned for negotiating with Taliban and persuading them in reduction of violence. Qureshi underlined the steps taken by Pakistan for Afghanistan in rebuilding the stable economic zone and bilateral trade relations. He iterated that sending refugees back with honor to their motherland was also part of peace process.
