The nation celebrates Pakistan Day on Friday with renewed commitment to work hard for the progress and stability of the country. The day marks adoption of historic Lahore Resolution this day in 1940 that provided a framework for realization of the goal of a separate homeland for Muslims of South Asia. The Day will dawn with 31-gun salute in the federal capital and 21-gun salute in provincial capitals. Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi will formally inaugurate the first unit of 4th Extension Power Project of Tarbela today. The project is being constructed on tunnel four of Tarbela Dam with three proposed units with installed capacity of 470MW each. The second unit of the project is scheduled to be commissioned in April followed by the third unit in May this year. The project upon completion will increase total generation capacity of Tarbela Hydel Power Station from existing 3,478 MW to 4,888MW. The Tarbela 4th extension project will provide 3.84 billion units of electricity to the national grid per annum.

Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif says Pakistan’s relations with Russia are improving due to the government’s effective foreign policy. In an interview, he said there is a trust deficit between Pakistan and the United States. He said Pakistan wants to have good relations with Washington on equality basis. China, while welcoming Afghan President Ashraf Ghani’s offer of talks to Taliban has extended full assistance to the Afghan reconciliation and peaceful reconstruction process. Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Hua Chunying in a press briefing in Beijing, said that China always supported the Afghan-led and Afghan-owned extensive and exclusive reconciliation process. The Spokesperson urged all the relevant parties in Afghanistan to address their difference through dialogue and consultation.
